The experiences I had growing up in a bicultural family fuel the imagery, and emotional quality of my work. My father is an immigrant from Mexico, and my mother a white American. I struggle to define and understand who I am. My work explores the complexities of identity such as perception, and language. Contrasts between the visceral and superficial nature of people dominate the imagery. I work in layers and continually add and subtract paint to build a strong emotional quality in each painting. Ambiguity, movement and obscurity play an important role in the figures relationship with the environment. I use both English and Spanish words interchangeably to title works and each piece is a reflection of duality of my identity.
